Men & Online Bingo
Are more men playing Bingo? That’s the question. And the simple answer is yes!
But up until around ten years or so ago, the only men you were likely to see at a Bingo hall was the well-built bloke ‘man’-ning the doors! Today, for every twenty women at a Bingo hall, you may find one man. So more men are playing … only not that many more!
However, if we look at the growth of bingo in the online environment then we can safely record that many more men are now committed Bingo regulars. But just why this is this so is not an easy question to answer. The reasons are numerous and in some cases very sound, but some make little or no sense and have no obvious explanation.
In Spain for instance, it’s a fact that more men play online bingo than women. From this we can only surmise that women prefer the trip out to a Bingo hall where they meet up with friends and relatives and have some fun away from home for a few hours, rather than sitting in front of the flickering grey-blue light of a computer with kids screaming in the background and dad shouting, “Where’s the TV remote?”
In dad’s case, he’ll quite happily sit squinting at the computer screen, beer in hand, wearing his favourite tatty bathrobe, door closed to the noise and mayhem of the kids, having great fun playing Online Bingo. On the one hand, in the chat rooms, he can be witty and charming (at least, he thinks he is) or if the mood takes him he can occasionally be downright rude. On the other hand, by playing Online Bingo games rather than playing in Bingo halls, he cleverly avoids people on either side of him scanning his cards and embarrassingly pointing out (loudly) that he’s missed a few called numbers! Instead, by playing Online Bingo, he can sip at his beer while handling a fistful of Bingo cards – and thanks to online technology, his called numbers will be highlighted and the best card displayed to him throughout the game. So yes, he’d rather hide himself away and enjoy the game on his own.
It seems that more men are drawn to Online Bingo because it’s safer and less threatening for them to do so and until Bingo halls change their marketing approach and make it a fun ‘couples’ environment, the numbers won’t necessarily grow substantially. There are also many feminine Bingo sites that need to become more ‘men’ friendly.
Oh, and another interesting snippet of information reveals that blokes get turned on by playing and winning at Online Bingo. Mmm, I guess this will lead to a sudden rush of men anxious to sign up to play … all the more reason for the wives to quickly disappear down to the local Bingo hall!
